Hotels, Visas, Travel, Letters of Invitation

Conference Venue:  Registration and most events will be in the Raytheon Room, ground floor of the Egan Center on the campus of Northeastern University (NEU).  This building hosts NEU's technology transfer center and the nanotechnology research facilities. The meals and banquets will be held in other campus buildings.  NEU is four miles from Logan Airport and one mile from the Hynes Center and the complex of hotels at Prudential.  The Egan Center is 100 feet from the "Ruggles" Subway Stop (Orange line) or 0.2 miles from the "Northeastern University" Subway Stop (Green line - E Train). (Link to MBTA Map).

Accommodations:  FAST is holding some rooms at a nearby hotel.  The rooms are at the Midtown Hotel (220 Huntington Ave) for about $100/night.  The Midtown Hotel is 0.85 miles from the Egan Center and about one block from the Symphony or Huntington Ave MBTA Subway stop (Green Line).  Tel:  617-262-1000 or 800-343-1177.  When you call, be sure to ask for the Fulbright Academy Conference rate, but note that the internet rates may be different (depending on your arrival and departure days).  You must call the hotel at 617-262-1000 to get the Conference rate.

Visas: All international travelers require a passport, and people from some countries need a visa as well.  Please note that the processing time for visas can be several months. For details, visit this US Department of State website.  In some cases, you need a letter of invitation from FAST in order to apply for a visa.  If this is the case, please request a letter using our on-line form. Letters will only be provided to individuals who are Fulbright scholars or who have demonstrated a strong interest in the conference and an ability to attend.

Financial Aid/ Complimentary Registrations:  The Fulbright Academy offers registration discounts to indiviudals such as students and attendees from low- and middle-income countries.  FAST does not award financial aid for travel or accommodations.  Some of the attendees toprevious meetings have found sponsors to pay for their registration and/or their travel and accommodation expenses.  Sources have included their employer, the local US Embassy, the local Fulbright alumni organization, and national or international businesses. Because we give so many opportunities for people to speak or present at the conference, we do not offer complimentary registrations. All participants, including speakers and presenters, are expected to register for the conference.

In the past, participants have requested a letter of invitation from FAST in order to advance their efforts to obtain a sponsorship from their institution or from other entities.  If you need such assistance, please request a letter using our on-line formLetters will only be provided to individuals who are Fulbright scholars or who have demonstrated a strong interest in the conference and an ability to attend.  Click here for an example of a letter.

Travel Issues: Boston is served by a major international airport (BOS) (http://www.massport.com/logan).  Other nearby airports are Providence, RI and Manchester, NH.

Weather: The weather in Boston in February is quite variable (from 0 degrees to 40 degree F or -15 degrees to +5 degrees C).  There may be snow or slush on the ground.  The conference schedule includes tours of nearby sites, which may require a 10-20 minute outdoor walk.  Please bring appropriate dress.
