Green Technologies in Germany

This Program Was Canceled Today - February 25, 2008

About two dozen DAAD grantees and Fulbright grantees and alumni had been recruited to participate in the weekend program and/or attend the reception on Friday afternoon at the TU Darmstadt.  Unfortunately, the numbers were not sufficient, and our partners decided to cancel the program.

Study Tour for Fulbright & DAAD Grantees and Alumni on Green Technologies:
Friday - Sunday, March 13-15 in the German State of Hessen

Each year, hundreds of PhD students from the US and graduates of US colleges and universities are in Germany on Fulbright and DAAD scholarships. Some may be interested in staying in Germany to work, to study and to conduct research. To help out, we are working with two of Europe’s leading universities in the fields of renewable energies and green technologies – the University of Kassel and the Technische Universität Darmstadt -- to give you a behind-the-scenes look at research and graduate study in Germany. We will also bring the students together with local companies and Fulbright alumni who can talk about career opportunities in these fields.

Thirty-five US Fulbrighters and DAAD grantees will participate in this first-ever weekend program. It starts in Darmstadt on Friday afternoon, March 13, and concludes in Kassel on Sunday morning, as some grantees have a program in Berlin that starts at 3:00 pm on March 15.

Alumni and institutions can participate as well.  They have a unique opportunity to set up a display and speak one-on-one to current grantees at a "jobs and career fair" on Friday evening in Darmstadt.  If desired, the alumni can also make formal presentations to the whole group of 35.  To attend on Friday afternoon/evening and/or to reserve exhibit space, please call Eric Howard at +1-207-799-3098 or email (address below).  Alumni who desire to do so can also participate in the full weekend program.

While the program is focusing on renewable energy and green technologies, it should be interesting to grantees in a broad array of fields such as engineering, biotech, social sciences, law & public policy, IT, environmental management and science education. This is an excellent opportunity to meet fellow Fulbright scholars and gain a new insight into research in one of Germany’s strongest fields.

The program is being organized by the Hessen Universities Consortium and the Fulbright Academy of Science & Technology with the generous financial support of the participating universities and the Hessen Ministry for Higher Education, Research, and the Arts. We are very grateful to the program sponsors, as they are covering the costs for accommodations for two nights, most meals, transport between Darmstadt and Kassel.

  • Fulbrighters:  The registration fee for current Fulbright grantees is 10 Euros.
  • DAAD grantees: A small number of free registrations are available to students (US and other nationalities) currently in Germany on a DAAD scholarship.
  • Alumni:  We have a small number of spaces for alumni (10 Euros for the whole weekend) or free if just for the job fair on Friday.

DAAD grantees can register by sending an email to Eric Howard (address below). In the email, include your name, current address & phone number, home country and information about your DAAD grant. A member of the planning team will contact you.

Fulbright grantees can register by clicking on the Paypal icon at the top of this page.  If you don't have a credit card for paying the registration fee, please send an email to Eric Howard (address below).

The preliminary registration deadline is 13 February.  To register and for answers to your questions, please contact Eric Howard at +1-207-799-3098 or ehoward (at) FulbrightAcademy.org.

We hope you can join this unique event.
