Membership in FAST

Who are we and How to join.

The Fulbright Academy of Science & Technology is a membership-based organization established by alumni of the Fulbright Exchange Program.

The basic membership is $60 for individuals, $500 for academic institutions, and $1,000 for corporations and government agencies.  Benefits include invitations to events, reduced rates at our meetings and opportunities to collaborate with other grantees on special programs and projects. Click here for the generic membership form.  (we have separate forms for different categories of membership - see the box on the right for details). Click here to make an online payment.

If you are joining as an individual, please consider giving at a higher level - about 20% of our members in 2005 gave at levels of $100 or more.  Special rates are available for those living in low and middle-income countries and for non-profit organizations.

A significant portion of the Academy's income comes from grants and from contributions given by individual donors.  If you would like to make a larger contribution, please contact our Executive Director, Mr. Eric Howard, at 1-207-799-3098.

SOME DETAILS ABOUT MEMBERSHIP

  • We recently produced a short video about the Academy, our goals and mission.  Filmed in Panama at our 2007 Annual Conference, it features several well-known scientists and Fulbright scholars.  Click here for the video.
  • Membership in the Academy is open to any individual, business, government agency, academic institution, and other like institutions. Click here for a list of members and supporters.
  • Indivduals and organizations get involved for many reasons - to promote their work, to develop new linkages, to support the ideals of Fulbright exchanges.  Some are actively involved others are quiet supporters. Here are some examples of how members get involved.
  • In addition to members, we also have supporters who are interested in the work of the Academy but are not yet contributing (paying) members.  If you would like to be kept informed about our work, just sign up for our free newsletter.
  • FAST is funded through membership fees and by grants/contracts and donations from businesses, foundations and individuals. Funds are used to support programs that advance the Fulbright Academy’s mission. (Our Fourth Annual Report - 2006)
  • FAST is not involved in selecting or awarding Fulbright Scholarships, and it does not raise funds to support Fulbright scholarships.
  • FAST is an independent organization and is not affiliated with the Fulbright Association, the US State Department, Fulbright Commissions or the Fulbright Exchange Program.
  • By joining the Fulbright Academy, you are giving the Academy permission to share your name and your professional interests with other members of the Academy. We also may publish a brief summary of your professional background, using information provided by you or from your website or other websites.

The Fulbright Academy adheres to organizational management and fundraising guidelines adopted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), including the "Accountable Nonprofit Organization Statement of Principles" and the "Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice."
